Decatur Falls to LaGrange; Marrah Belts First High School Home Run

After securing their first win of the season against Lakeside Thursday afternoon, Decatur traveled to Coweta County this weekend for the first of a two game round robin tournament hosted by the Georgia Dugout Club. The Lady Bulldogs played their best ball of the season to date, but ended up surrendering the lead late against a very capable LaGrange High School team, eventually losing 6-3. Despite the loss, the game was a good confidence builder for the young Decatur team.

In the circle for Decatur, Quincy Prichard was very effective making use of her rise and screwball that kept the LaGrange batters off balance for much of the game. Prichard pitched six complete innings, surrendering just two earned runs, scattering six hits and striking out five. Five walks and a few Decatur errors provided the baserunners LaGrange needed for the victory.

Sarah Moss led off the contest with a double down the left field line that short-hopped the fence, and she later scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Prichard to give Decatur the early lead. After giving up two runs in the top of the second inning, Decatur re-gained the lead 3-2 on a two run home run by freshman Elise Marrah. Marrah’s home run over the left-center field wall was the first of her high school career, and scored senior catcher Emily Miranda who led off the inning with a line drive up the middle.

With the lead Prichard cruised through the 3rd and 4th Innings and was very much in command as she struck out two and induced three weak ground balls and one pop-out. However, in the 5th inning with two outs, Decatur miscues on defense and a timely hit by LaGrange helped the Grangers flip the score again 4-3, which they extended in the 6th Inning with two more runs. The game was called as the 90-minute tournament time limit expired at the end of the 6th inning.

The loss dropped Decatur to 1-4 on the season. Decatur will return home to Oakhurst Park to play is first region game against rival Lithia Spring this Tuesday, August 20th. Game time is 5:30PM.
