Big 3rd Inning Propels Decatur Past Douglas County 11-3
Two days after surrendering seven runs in the fourth inning in their regional opener loss to Lithia Springs, the Decatur Lady Bulldogs scored eight-runs in the third inning Thursday to take a commanding lead against Douglas County High Thursday, eventually winning the contest 11-3. Kyra Council had a solid outing in the circle for Decatur, pitching five complete innings, allowing three earned runs, six hits, with two walks and two strike outs for her first win of the season.
The big third inning rally started with walks by Kai Zokovitch and Sara Moss. Kozkovitch scored on a single by Abbey Gilbert whose hard hit ball took a bad hop past the third baseman and into left field. Quincy Prichard followed up reaching on an error when Douglas County missed played Prichard’s high fly ball to right, scoring Moss from second. Two bases-loaded singles by Kailyn McArthur and Emily Miranda knocked in the next four runs driving in Gilbert, Prichard, Camilla Schneider and Elise Marrah who both reached on walks. Kai Zokovitch extended the rally with a one-out ground ball to the right side driving in Audrey Vazquez, who was pinch-running for Council after being hit by a pitch.
In the fourth inning Council added some insurance to the lead with her own two-run single to center. McArthur, Miranda and Council all finished the game with two RBIs on their respective hard hit balls to center field.
Decatur will get another crack at Lithia Spring Tuesday afternoon at Lithia Springs and will follow up with Grady High on Thursday at Oakhurst; game time is 5:55PM.
