Decatur Defeats Lakeside 11-3 in Home Opener

After dropping their first three games of the season on the road, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back Thursday behind an energetic crowd at Oakhurst Park with an 11-3 victory over Lakeside High School. Sophomore Quincy Prichard picked up the win, allowing just two earned runs on one hit and four walks through five complete innings.

The game was tight through three and a half innings, before Decatur took advantage of some Lakeside miscues and scored six runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Following Kai Zokovitch’s double to left with one on, fellow sophomore Sara Moss lined a triple into the left center field gap scoring Zokovitch and freshman Elise Marrah who reached on an error, in what turned out to be a game winning hit. Decatur added four more runs that inning with hits by Prichard and a two run ground ball single to right field by junior Kailyn McArthur. In addition to Moss and McArthur, senior Camilla Schneider also finished the day with two RBIs.

Defensively, Decatur was much improved over their first three contests this season as Moss and senior Abbey Gilbert locked down the left side of the infield at shortstop and third base, respectively. The 11-3 victory was the first win at Decatur High for rookie Head Coach Paige Nowacki.

Decatur will begin region play this Tuesday August 20th at home against rival Lithia Springs and then host another out-of-region game the following day versus Douglas County.
